Seen from the water, the Camargue reveals another face. The canals and channels run between reeds and open marsh, and a canoe moves quietly enough to bring birds and other wildlife close to the boat. A guided descent is a natural choice for a group that wants a physical activity without any pressure to perform, since the pace is set by the group and the paddling is easy to learn in a few minutes.

The programme begins with a short introduction to the boat and to the paddling technique, followed by a briefing on safety and on the route. The crews are formed in pairs or small teams, and each boat has a clear role within the group. The guide leads the convoy and explains the banks, the vegetation and the work of the marsh, with stops where the group can rest and take photographs.

The descent works well in the middle of a seminar, as a team exercise that asks for coordination, or as a relaxed half-day outing in a warm season. It can be followed by a lunch or an aperitif at the end of the route. The length of the course and the number of boats depend on the water level, the weather and the size of the group on the day.

Objectives

  • Offer a physical activity that is easy to learn and suitable for most groups
  • Discover the wetlands and their wildlife from the water
  • Build coordination between crews on the water

How it works

  1. 1The group is introduced to the canoes and to the paddling technique.
  2. 2A safety briefing covers the route, the rules on the water and the signals.
  3. 3The crews paddle the descent behind the guide, with stops along the way.
  4. 4The group regroups at the end of the route, for a meal or a short debrief.

Is the descent safe for beginners?

Yes. The waterways are calm, the life jackets are compulsory, and the guide adapts the route to the level of the group.
